G.Skill just expanded its "best-selling" KM780 series of mechanical gaming keyboards with a mindset on leaving a little more jingle in your pocket (emphasis on little).
The new models -- Ripjaws KM780R RGB and Ripjaws KM780R MX -- are identical to the KM780 series with the "same great build and design," essentially a redux of the original, but without the added accessories. More specifically, G.Skill doesnt include extra gaming caps, a puller tool, or keycap box with the new models like it does with the old.
What you get in exchange is a whopping $10 savings. To be fair, the savings could buy you five Powerball tickets the next time the jackpot swells to "holy crap!" territory, and heck, G.Skills heart is certainly in the right place. We just find it hard to get overly excited by a relatively small price difference.
Nevertheless, here are the MSRPs for the old and new:
- G.Skill Ripjaws KM780 RGB: $170
- G.Skill Ripjaws KM780R RGB: $160
- G.Skill Ripjaws KM780 MX: $130
- G.Skill Ripjaws KM780R MX: $120
Hey, its better than no price difference at all, though the puller tool is a nice accessory to have (maybe not $10 nice, but still handy).
Pricing aside, the Ripjaws KM780R RGB and MX come with choice of Cherry MX Blue, Brown, or Red mechanical key switches. The keyboard also features a "military-grade" aluminum plate in a brushed black anodized finish, six dedicated macro keys, onboard profiles, on-the-fly macro recording, media control keys, volume roller, and a digital LED volume display.
